Adu Traded to RSL
In a blockbuster trade, DC United has traded Freddy Adu and Nick Rimando to Real Salt Lake for a major allocation, Jay Nolly, and future considerations. It seems some of the future considerations is a portion of Freddy's possible transfer fee. More analysis to come later, but for now how large that portion is could be the difference between a great deal and a horrible trade.
I am still grappling with this in my head. D and Oscar don't hesitate to chime in, as well as any commentators.

I've been pleased with Freddy's development and think he'll go on to do good things in a major European league. Partly because of that, I like the deal, as long as the transfer money isn't negligible.
The key is, Freddy isn't going to be in MLS much longer. RSL are kidding themselves if they think he's going to be there for more than two years. I don't think he was going to stay with United past the summer. Why try to hold onto him? You want to play him for three months and get some money for him? I'd rather develop the team while Gomez and Moreno still have legs to contribute. Get what you can now. A major allocation is nothing to sneeze at.
Bye bye. Is something in the works with Real Madrid? Hmmm....
Wow. I didn't see that coming, but it sounds like a shrewd move by the DCU management team. I can't wait to see who these Brazilian/Argentinian guys are that they bring in. Good luck to Freddy and Nicky in Salty Lake, I'll miss those guys suiting up for DCU.
Well, I was really surprised, but on thinking about it, it seems like a win-win-win for us and Freddy and Nicky. Maybe the RSL fans will be a little kinder to him. I never really understood all the negativity. Or, well, I did, but I think it's not necessary.
A bit surprising to say the least, but I guess Freddy and his people want him to be a guaranteed starter. Or why else go to Real Salt Lake?
While we all figured Rimando would be traded in the offseason, I'm baffled that Adu would be part of the package. What does this move to for us:
- Clear up a lot of cap room - could a Designtad Player be on his way?
- Get us an allocation - did the front office think they wouldn't get on for him when he left or do they already have someone lined up and ready to go.
