LA: Sampson Out.

DC United's next opponent, the Los Angeles Galaxy, have fired their coach Steve Sampson. No replacement has been named. I'm going to expand on this tomorrow, but in my mind this is a horrible decision by General Manager Alexi Lalas. There are two reasons for this: One is establishing the precedent that you aren't willing to stick with people in hard times, but the other is that Lalas now officially has no credibility in his public statements. I will defend both of those comments tomorrow.

Lalas has now fired two big name coaches...and works for a franchise that has now fired two big name coaches in a row....

It'll be interesting to see who they get...I bet no established coach will want to work with Lalas.

But...he'll probably appoint an ex-Nat teammate...which actually might work better than a re-tread anyway.

I have mixed feelings about this...just glad that I'm a fan of a franchise that has their sh.. together....

My theory: Sampson sucks.

Good riddance.

Frankly, I'm not sure he had that much to begin with.

Any time a coach gets a "vote of confidence," he's on his way out the door. Everyone knows this.

Sampson's firing's been long overdue, really. A couple of wins in the playoffs and beating only two real MLS teams (Chivas doesn't count) in the Open Cup does not a great season make, despite the fact that those brought home hardware. The fact that the Galaxy currently completely suck just cements that.
