CONFIRMED: D.C. UNITED TO ANNOUNCE SALE

As first reported last night by The DCenters, D.C. United will introduce its new ownership group Monday at 10:30AM in downtown DC. DCU is now issuing a press release (we'll link it as soon as it has gone live on the website, but it is being distributed over email). This is important. Text of the press release as follows:

Washington, D.C. (January 5, 2007) - D.C. United will hold a press conference Monday at 10:30 a.m. to announce the club’s new ownership group. Club President and CEO Kevin Payne, Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber, District of Columbia Mayor Adrian Fenty, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and the new owners will address members of the media in the Crystal Room at The Willard.

Update 0145PM:Steve Goff fills in the details over at the Post on the picture. Still, the final price is not yet known, though Goff alludes to an earlier $33M offer.

Parmalat is selling FC Parma. I believe they are accepting sealed bids thru Monday. It'll be interesting to see the difference in the valuation of the 2 clubs.

I think the number I heard last night on Telefutura's Contacto Deportivo was in the $30 million range also.

But DC United is not in the relegation zone or being sold by a bankrupt parent company!
