The DCenters: 7 Hours Ahead of the Curve (and other housekeeping)
GAIN TIME: Kinney alerted me to this last week, so I want to take a moment now to point out just how in-tune with the zeitgeist (teamgeist?) the DCenters is. In the wake of the Chivas match at around 12:15 AM, we wrote:
I think that the greatest thing I can say about D.C. United is "there are no more moral victories." Such things are not possible for a team that can play as well as this one can. There are only wins. And defeats. This was the latter, but like our victories we show class in defeat. There are no moral victories because we know we can win any game. Moral victories only come when defeat is assured. We lost. But I never want to hear again that we are doomed to defeat if we play in Mexico. We just haven't done it yet. There will be a first time.In the Soccer America daily briefing the next morning, Ridge Mahoney wrote:
There are no moral victories at D.C. United. Losses are just that, nothing more, yet at the Estadio Jalisco Tuesday night it attained some semblance of triumph for itself, its fans, and its league. The timestamp seems to be 7:00 AM. That's right, if you read the DCenters, you will know the conventional talking points for MLS about a quarter of a day before the rest of the world. It's an accomplishment, of a sort.
NOT ME: For those that read either the DC Sports Bog or Soccer Insider, I wanted to let you know that if you see comments from either "d" or "d, dc" it isn't me. I do occasionally comment there, and I'll try and figure out a way to tag myself in some obvious way to limit confusion.
THAT'S... INTERESTING: If you check out the Technorati "Blogs that link here" thing, you'll notice a whole bunch of spam blogs for gay porn, cell phones, and the like have started linking here. No, we have no idea, but if this blog helps get you off or facilitate communication, well, I suppose we'll take credit for that.

"It's an accomplishment, of a sort."
Or an opportunity for others to plagerize.
I thought about that... but I'm inclined to think that this was simply a case of parallel writing. I think we happened to capture a mood pretty well, but the mood was out there anyways.
Still, plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery.
Probably more in journalism (so cheers), not so much in academic writing.
But I think you are right, probably just similar thoughts, but I'll keep my eye on it for the next article.
So what's the zeitgeist for the game against KC? I'm thinking United need at least three goals and a shutout to quench the doubt after two straight crap outings.
If we're no longer satisfied with "moral victories" against what should be superior opponents, we definitely should no longer be satisfied with scraping by with one-goal wins against clearly inferior opponents. I want a big win, and I won't accept less.
You with me?
I don't care so much about margin of victory, but I want to see a comprehensive win. If it's 1-0, or 2-1, provided we look the class of the league throughout the game, then I'm fine with that.
This conversation is exploit no where. It's wanting the expanse of a serious human to perversion the things to uprise out on ending.
