Quaranta Qall Up

Much consternation over Bruce's call to Tino for the Gold Cup. I can understand this. The best explanation on why this move makes any sense at all revolves around the following three points:
  1. This gives a young player some experience at the speed of the international game.
  2. Tino's play is more suited to Int'l play than MLS.
  3. Bruce is drinking absinthe.

Still, given all that, I tend to side with the people somewhat confused by this move. Tino hasn't yet shown that he has the skill for the USMNT. Not this year.

This call up is not inconsistent with previous call ups by Arena. He continues to deepen the national team pool, which is a good thing.

True, but the question is whether Tino is the best person to get the opportunity for MNT experience. I'm not sure there aren't other, more deserving players out there.

Eric, you make a good point. But doesn't deepening the national pool come at the expense of getting a more cohesive team? These guys have a different lineup every time they play.

Anyway, here's to hoping for a USMNT Tino hat trick.
