Steven Goff in the Washington Post is announcing that DC United will be sold to an ownership group that includes real-estate developers Willi Lauterbach, Timothy Kissler; attorney Kenneth Lore; and DC United President /CEO Kevin Payne. Price is about $20M US. Negotiations are in the final stage.

On a side note, this tracks with rumors that have been floating around the DC United forum on Big Soccer. So take those net rumors seriously next time!

Quick take? Stadium plans remain on track, we're no longer part of the merry-go-round that is the AEG front office, the buyers know DC and United, this is all good.

We've got probably the best GM in the league, who's been in on all the stadium talks, and now he'll be in the ownership group... Sounds like a good thing to me. This is a guy who wrote a personal letter to the Screaming Eagles after they showed up in force in New Jersey to watch a victory last year... All class. I'd say we'll be in good hands.

Well, Payne is one of AEG's favorites so it won't be like AEG is gone completely, right?

And what's this about a stadium? The last I heard was that United officials were hoping to have something across the Anacostia from the new baseball stadium but that nothing was even remotely close to bringing to D.C. for approval. I wasn't expecting y'all to have a stdium until 2009 or 2010 at the earliest.

Did something change?
