Steve Nicol, Meet Piotr Nowak. Nowak, this is Mr. Nicol. I think you have some common ground.

Is this funny?

Nicol said Revolution forwards Dempsey, Pat Noonan (out with a hip flexor), and Taylor Twellman ``don't get any protection."

``This is not the first time," Nicol said. ``Challenges are coming in from behind and our strikers don't get any protection whatsoever. I may be crying, but it seems to me they get nothing."

Right, and Shalrie Joseph, Matt Reis, et al.. have never done anything to opposing team's attacking threats...

Update: And Joe Franchino...

Another Update: And let's not get into Mr. Dempsey's actions with Mr. Conrad...

Yes, it is rich that the coach of a team of thugs is making these remarks. But let's look at it with two ther things in mind. One, DC hasn't been a bunch of choirboys lately. Secondly (and maybe more importantly), perhaps if more MLS coaches make a case that their stars are getting hacked to death then the league might actually listen and crack down on this behavior. In the end this is only a good thing for United as I our skill players are better than theirs.

This line amused me as well: "The Revolution probably should not have expected to defeat Kansas City last night, despite playing before an MLS season-high 16,321 for Gillette Stadium."

16,000 fans! That can really motivate a team! Not enough to beat Kansas City, of course...
